Southeast: Unknown gunmen have killed over 150 civilians, security agents – Army Commander

Daily Post

The Brigadier commander of 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze in Imo State, Raymond Utsaha has lamented the continuous killing of soldiers by unknown gunmen.

The commander said over 38 soldiers and 78 policemen have been killed by gunmen in the prevailing security situation across the southeast zone.

In a joint media interaction with the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Utsaha regretted the sudden increase, saying that no responsible government would want to allow those “criminal elements” to have their way.

According to him, “78 police officers, 38 soldiers, 5 naval officers, 7 airforce officers, 15 civil defense officers, 31 community policing members and over 100 innocent citizens in five States of the southeast zone, have been killed by unknown gunmen.

“With this staggering number of casualties, no responsible government would want to allow the criminal elements to continue wrecking havoc.

“It will amaze you that over 80% of security personnel killed within two months of the crisis are from the eastern part of the country.

“We, therefore, urge members of the public to assist the security agents by providing them with vital information. This will go a long way in curtailing the high rate of insecurity in the zone.”
