Manchester United fans have been warned it’ll likely be a quiet January transfer window for the club despite their need to improve.
The Premier League giants currently sit seventh in the table and are out of Europe and Carabao Cup.
Performances and results have been underwhelming, with Erik ten Hag coming under increasing scrutiny throughout the campaign.
January presents United with the opportunity to strengthen in the market in order to finish the season in the best possible fashion.
The general consensus is that improvement is needed in the attack, but it seems as though incomings are far from a certainty.
Football director John Murtough spoke to the fans’ forum last week and hinted at a quiet transfer window last month.
“Looking ahead to the January transfer window, we are not expecting it to be particularly busy,” he said via The Athletic.
“There will always be the possibility of deals around the edges of the squad, particularly in terms of finding opportunities for players who are not playing as much football as they would like.
“However, we’ve always been consistent in saying that we do not see January as the optimal time to do business and our recruitment strategy remains focused on summer windows.”
Amid Everton’s ten-point deduction for breaching profit and sustainability rules, Murtough also insisted that United will keep within the strict Financial Fair Play regulations.
We’ve seen this season that Financial Fair Play [FFP] rules have real teeth, so we have to be very careful to ensure that we remain compliant, and we will.
