The Lagos State Government has clarified that it has not reintroduced the monthly environmental sanitation exercise nor imposed any movement restrictions starting July. Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, dismissed these claims as misinformation intended to confuse residents.
In a statement by the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Kunle Adeshina, Wahab urged residents to ignore the false information and continue their lawful activities. He emphasized that there would be no movement restrictions on the last Saturday of July, contrary to the misleading reports.
Wahab clarified that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s announcement on Sunday was about initiating a weekly community-based sensitization and awareness exercise involving all residents. The aim is to encourage voluntary cleaning of the environment while emphasizing the importance of maintaining clean surroundings.
The commissioner stressed that the governor did not mention the reintroduction of the monthly exercise or any movement restrictions in July or any other month. He further urged residents to cultivate a habit of keeping their environment clean at all times instead of waiting for government-declared sanitation months.
