Lagos and Cairo have been named among the top 10 riskiest places for tourists globally in Forbes Advisor’s 2024 rankings.
The new study reveals that Lagos has a risk score of 91.54, while Cairo’s risk score stands at 83.44. Caracas, Venezuela (100 risk score), is first followed by Karachi, Pakistan (93.12 risk score), in the second place, with Yangon, Myanmar (91.67 risk score), third.
Manila, Philippines (91.49 risk score), is fifth in the rankings followed by Dhaka, Bangladesh (89.5 risk score) in the sixth place. Bogota, Colombia (86.7 risk score) is seventh, followed by Cairo, Egypt (83.44 risk score) in the eighth position, and Mexico City, Mexico (82.43 risk score) ninth. Quito, Ecuador ( 82.02 risk score) is 10th in the rankings.
Forbes’ study compared 60 international cities across seven risk categories – crime, personal security, health, infrastructure, natural disasters, and digital security – to create a comprehensive travel safety rating. Scores out of 100 were then calculated to reflect the overall risk to travellers visiting each city.
