A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Jesutega Onokpasa has lambasted President Bola Tinubu for favouring Lagos-based politicians in his appointment.
Onokpasa who appeared in a video seen by SaharaReporters on X, claimed that the present Tinubu’s political appointees did not have the competency to lead the country for better.
He said, “Mr President, you see; most of us supported you because we believe in your antecedent, what you have done in Lagos.
But you see what you did in Lagos, you mobilised Lagosians to fix Lagos. However you can’t mobilise Lagosians to fix Nigerians. You will have to mobilise Nigerians to fix Nigeria.
“You can form the core of a team that is basically a Lagosian-based team to fix Nigeria. It is mathematically incongruous.
These Lagosians you brought to Abuja to help you fix Nigeria, with respect they are useless. That your Chief of Staff, (Femi) Gbajabiamila is the most useless of them; you will have to dismantle this team. With respect to my president; you will have to dismantle and rebuild a thorough Nigerian core.”
Some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had last year accused President Bola Tinubu of lopsided appointments in his administration.
The APC members under the banner of Progressive Change Ambassadors of Nigeria (PCAN) had said that mainly people from the South West region are being appointed to top positions by the President.
In a statement by PCAN Executive Director, Alhaji Abdulkareem Ubaydah and Secretary, Muhammad Rabiu Awwal E, the group accused Tinubu of ignoring competent and qualified individuals from other ethnic groups in the country.
“Mr. President, we write to you today as concerned citizens of Nigeria and deeply troubled members of your party – the All Progressives Congress (APC) to express our deep concern about the perceived imbalance in your political appointments so far,” the statement read.
“We have observed that a significant majority of these appointments have been made from your southwest geopolitical zone and especially from your ethnic group – the Yorubas, to the exclusion of other qualified and competent individuals from other parts of the country.
“This has led to widespread feelings of alienation and resentment among Nigerians from other parts of the country. While we understand that you are entitled to appoint people you trust and believe in, we as stakeholders in the political party under which you assumed office as President of Nigeria, reserve the right to urge you to consider the importance of national unity and inclusiveness in your appointments.
“It is important to remember always that you are the President of all Nigerians, not just that of Yorubas of the southwest geopolitical zone.”
The APC group further urged the President to ensure balance in coming appointments.
