The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has once again made headlines by disrupting an event in Abuja that was organized without her consent and lacked a focus on people-centered initiatives.
Saturday Telegraph reports that today’s incident occurred nearly a month after a similar disruption by the Minister on August 8, 2024.
During the previous event, titled “Unveiling the Power of Women and Food Security,” the Minister revealed that the organizer had been taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly impersonating the ministry.
In a video shared on her X page, she stated, “There is an impersonation going on here. The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs did not plan this. The lady has been arrested. Right now, she is with the DSS.”
In the latest video, which has gone viral on social media, Kennedy-Ohanenye was heard expressing her strong opposition to workshops and seminars that do not include empowerment initiatives, labeling them as a waste of the government’s scarce resources.
She emphasized, “Let this be the last time Women Affairs will organize anything that I am not aware of. If you try next time, I will come here and disgrace you.”
The minister further criticized the practice of holding events that focus on peace and security without addressing the underlying issues of poverty and lack of empowerment.
