At least ten people were brutally killed in a late-night attack on mourners in Ruwi community, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Thursday.
The victims—seven women and three men—were ambushed while gathered at a family residence to mourn the dead in accordance with local tradition. Eyewitnesses reported that most were hacked to death with machetes, while two women survived with injuries.
Mr. Kefas Mallai, Chairman of the Community Peace Observers in Bokkos, confirmed the attack, calling it a “calculated ambush” targeting vulnerable mourners.
“It happened around 10 p.m. The victims were mostly women, and the attackers slaughtered them in cold blood. Security operatives were called, but unfortunately, they arrived after the assailants had fled,” Mallai stated.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which adds to the recent wave of violence in Plateau State. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement as tensions rise in the region.
