Peter Obi denies calling 2023 presidential election 'religious war'

DAILY POST

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has denied referring to the just concluded presidential election as a “religious war.”

DAILY POST recalls that Obi in a leaked audio clip, seemed to be urging the founder of Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo to encourage Christians in South-West and Kwara state to vote for him, stressing that the presidential election was a “religious war.”

But in a recent interview with Arise TV, the former Anambra State governor denied calling the presidential election a “religious war.”

He maintained that the clip was the handiwork of “manipulators.”

He said he is not an ethnic/religious bigot, stressing that he sponsors many Muslim residents in Onitsha on pilgrimages to Mecca.

He said, “I did not say the election was a religious war because it is not. These are manipulators. I am not an ethnic/religious bigot. I celebrated Salah with Muslim residents in Onitsha as I have often done. I have sponsored many to Mecca. I am not the one with a same faith ticket.
