SAHARA REPORTERS
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has opened up about the rift between him and President Bola Tinubu when the latter was the governor of Lagos State.
Obasanjo dismissed claims that he tried to cripple the economy of Lagos State when Tinubu was governor.
In January 2023 during political campaigns, Tinubu had recalled how Obasanjo seized the allocations of Lagos State when he (Obasanjo) was president.
He had said the seizure of the revenue of Lagos State by Obasanjo triggered his intellectual capacity and those of his lieutenants to make Lagos what it is today.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the ex-President described Tinubu’s claim as nonsense.
Asked about the allegation that he attempted to cripple the economy of Lagos, Obasanjo responded: “That was absolute nonsense. If he doesn’t know, then he doesn’t know anything. Is it that one that made him to have Alphabeta?”
Tinubu governed Lagos state from 1999 to 2007, before contesting Nigeria’s president in 2023, under the All Progressive Congress (APC).
