The legal counsels to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, have reportedly commenced scrutiny on the academic records of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, released by the Chicago State University (CSU).
Naija News had reported that the institution based in the United States of America released Tinubu’s academic records on Monday night following a court order in favour of Atiku’s request earlier.
Recall that Atiku contested in the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), against Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP candidate, however, filed a series of petitions against Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the outcome of the February 25th poll as he also challenged the eligibility of the former governor of Lagos State.
Tinubu had claimed to have graduated from CSU, and hence, Atiku, who is faulting the claims, sought the order of the United States District Court in the Northern District of Illinois to have the varsity release the APC candidate’s academic records.
Earlier, Tinubu claimed to have lost his original certificates but presented a replacement for his CSU diploma to INEC ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Subsequently, after the poll, a US magistrate judge, Jeffrey Gilbert, granted the request by Atiku and ordered CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records within 24 hours.
However, Tinubu moved to block it by filing an appeal against the order. Naija News understands that Atiku intends to use the CSU academic record in pursuit of his appeal at the Supreme Court, where he is challenging Tinubu’s victory following a Presidential Election Petition Tribunal ruling in favour of the APC candidate.
