The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has called off its proposed nationwide strike after reaching an agreement with major marketers. Despite the pump price remaining unchanged, freight rates will increase, averting the strike.
Minister of State for Petroleum, Heineken Lekpobiri, announced the agreement, stating that the government will immediately pay outstanding bridging costs.
The Federal government has committed to releasing approximately N12 billion for trapped bridging claims. This decision comes after threats of a strike by the Northern Independent Petroleum Marketers Forum.
NMDPRA’s Chief Executive, Engr. Farouk Ahmed, emphasized the necessity of negotiating with marketers to address rising diesel prices.
