First Lady Remi Tinubu calls for capital punishment for kidnappers amid rising abductions

Expressing deep concern over the escalating cases of kidnappings, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has strongly advocated for capital punishment for individuals convicted of abducting young people. This comes in the wake of alarming reports, including the abduction of approximately 200 women in Borno State and over 280 pupils and teachers in Kaduna State.

In a bold statement, the First Lady condemned the actions of the kidnappers, labeling them as sick, cruel, and cowardly perpetrators. She lamented the recent wave of abductions, emphasizing the need for decisive action to protect the nation’s youth.

Addressing the state governors directly, Mrs. Tinubu urged swift and effective solutions to the crisis, emphasizing that once apprehended, any kidnapper should face capital punishment. She questioned the motives behind targeting innocent children, declaring, “They are animals, they are evil, and we should take them out of our midst.”

As a former lawmaker, the First Lady emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “Enough is enough.” She called on lawmakers to enact measures that would ensure the imposition of capital punishment on those responsible for kidnapping, stressing the importance of safeguarding the future by protecting the nation’s youth.

Mrs. Tinubu urged collective action, stating, “The state governors and the lawmakers should do something.” Her impassioned plea underscores the urgency of addressing the kidnapping crisis and sending a strong message that such heinous acts will not be tolerated.

In the face of these distressing events, the First Lady’s call for capital punishment serves as a stark reminder of the need for decisive and stringent measures to curb the growing threat of abduction in Nigeria.
