In efforts to bolster security measures on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, the Federal Government has announced ongoing installations of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and solar lights. The Minister of Works, David Umahi, revealed this during an interview on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics program.
The ongoing repairs on the bridge, which have caused significant gridlock for motorists and road users, are nearing completion, according to Umahi. He assured that the bridge is set to reopen in the coming days, with 99% of the rehabilitation project already accomplished.
Umahi emphasized that the installation of CCTV cameras aims to combat crime and illegal mining activities around the bridge. He cited instances of individuals engaging in unauthorized sand mining, even damaging the bridge’s infrastructure in the process.
