Adebayo Adelabu, minister of power, has said only those not paying electricity bills are complaining about the increase in the electricity tariff for Band A customers in the country. Adelabu made these remarks during the 8th Africa Energy Marketplace forum held on Thursday in Abuja.
He explained that the new tariff structure has actually resulted in a 30 to 40 percent reduction in energy costs for consumers within Band A. In addition, he dismissed claims that the tariff hike has increased production costs for manufacturers, which some argue has led to higher prices for goods and services. Adelabu’s statements aim to clarify misconceptions and emphasize the benefits of the new tariff system for high-consumption users.
According to him, the electricity tariff was not meant to impoverish Nigerians or worsen the already bad economic situation of a high inflation rate and the naira losing value.
