Britain’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) issued a travel advisory on Friday, cautioning citizens against traveling to several parts of Nigeria, including areas near the Niger Republic border, due to planned nationwide protests.
The advisory, published on the UK government’s website, highlights the potential risks associated with the upcoming #EndBadGovt protest set to begin on August 1, 2024. The FCDO warned that “widespread public demonstrations are a possibility across Nigeria” and advised British citizens to thoroughly research their destinations before traveling.
Specific states in five of Nigeria’s six regions were identified as potential hotspots for protests. The FCDO emphasized that traveling to these areas could invalidate travel insurance if done against their advice.
