March 21, 2025 – George Foreman, the legendary heavyweight boxer and Olympic gold medalist, has passed away at the age of 76, his family announced on Instagram.
In a heartfelt statement posted on his official account, his family expressed their deep sorrow, saying:
“Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman St., who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.”
Foreman was remembered not only as a dominant force in the boxing ring but also as a devout preacher, devoted husband, and loving father and grandfather.
“A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two-time heavyweight champion of the world, he was deeply respected – a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name – for his family,” the statement continued.
Foreman’s impact on boxing was historic. He won an Olympic gold medal at the 1968 Mexico City Games before going on to claim the heavyweight championship twice. He participated in some of the most iconic fights in boxing history, including The Fight of the Century against Joe Frazier in 1971 and The Rumble in the Jungle against Muhammad Ali in 1974.
Following his boxing career, Foreman became a successful entrepreneur and minister, famously reinventing himself with the George Foreman Grill, which became a global sensation.
