The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Tuesday said the agency has activated prevention, surveillance and mop up plan to tackle substandard contaminated paediatric cough syrups circulating in the Gambia.
The notification of healthcare providers by the agency was against the backdrop of the recent incident occasioned by killer syrupto to awaken the consciousness of the public on it.
The four substandard products, identified in The Gambia was reported to WHO in September, 2022
Director General of NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, while addressing a press briefing in Abuja, named Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, Makoff Baby Cough Syrup and Magrip N Cold Syrup as the four products.
Professor Adeyeye warned that in line with the 5th October, 2022, World Health Organization (WHO) of a global alert, the four cough syrups, she stated further, could be linked to acute kidney injuries and the children’s deaths in July, August, and September in the Gambia…
