The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has revealed that 1.2% of Nigeria’s population is currently living with HIV/AIDS. The disclosure was made by the Director General of NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, during the launch of nationwide sensitization campaigns in Ibadan on Tuesday.
The event, which addressed several key issues such as World HIV Day, security awareness, and World Human Rights Day, also highlighted the importance of discouraging the “get-rich-quick” syndrome and discussed the Tax Reform Bill.
Represented by Dr. Ayoola Olufemi, Director of Health and Social Care, Issa-Onilu expressed concern over the ongoing spread of the virus and called for enhanced public awareness to combat the epidemic. He commended the efforts of the Bola Tinubu-led administration in HIV prevention and underscored the NOA’s commitment to providing free counselling services, as well as fostering partnerships with both local and international organizations to reduce stigma and discrimination.
