Former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Maharazu Tsiga, who regained freedom from kidnappers’ den on Wednesday after being held for 56 days, has recounted his harrowing experience in captivity, revealing that hyenas surrounded him and other hostages a day before their release.
Freed after 56 days in captivity, former NYSC Director-General Maharazu Tsiga recounted his ordeal, describing how hyenas prowled near hostages before their rescue. Abducted on February 5 from Katsina State, Tsiga revealed kidnappers used captives as human shields during aerial strikes, believing officials had access to money. He narrowly escaped death when a hidden rocket failed to detonate near him. “They placed it where I slept, but God saved me,” he said.
The ex-official also faced threats from snakes and scorpions in the kidnappers’ den. Tsiga spoke during the handover of 19 rescued victims in Abuja, praising security forces while detailing his traumatic experience. Authorities continue efforts to combat banditry in the region.
