I turned down N5bn bribe to support Fubara’s impeachment

THE GUARDIAN

Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has claimed he was offered a N5 billion bribe to facilitate his principal’s impeachment while serving as a leader in the State Assembly. He vowed to soon disclose the identity of the individual behind the offer. Ehie also accused suspended Speaker Martins Amaewhule of orchestrating the 2023 bombing of the Rivers State Assembly complex, insisting that only the speaker had access to the premises at the time of the incident.

Ehie denied any involvement in the arson, dismissing allegations by former Head of Service George Nwaeke as a “scripted” attempt to implicate him and Governor Fubara. He revealed that Nwaeke, who resigned on March 24, 2025, had subsequently requested financial compensation from the governor. Ehie has instructed his lawyer to take legal action against Nwaeke, maintaining that Fubara is a peaceful leader incapable of such acts.
