Two women opened up about the moment they were “kicked off” a flight for their “inappropriate” outfits.
Teresa Araújo was hoping to celebrate her friend Tara Kehidi’s 30th birthday by travelling from Los Angeles to New Orleans, US. They travelled via Spirit Airlines when it allegedly happened.
According to the women, they were asked to leave the aircraft for wearing “inappropriate crop tops”. After boarding their seats, the pair were approached by a flight attendant.
The cabin crew member told them: “Put something on.” Now speaking to CNN Portugal, Teresa, 34, claimed the air conditioning was off so it would have been very hot on the plane.
Initially the women were wearing shirts that covered their crop tops, but from the heat on the plane, they removed them.
Tara said: “We asked if we could see the company’s dress code. We wanted to know if there was any rule that prohibited us from wearing tops on the plane.”
But following the conversation, the women were reportedly expelled from the aircraft, even though they were willing to put their shirts back on.
Carla Hager, who was in the seat in front of the two friends, intervened with the flight attendants to highlight it was rather hot inside the aircraft.
It is believed Carla was also told to leave the plane, along with her son. Now in a press release, Spirit Airlines said the “Contract of Carriage” shows there’s a dress code in place.
The same document states anyone kicked off a flight is not entitled to a refund or seat on another flight. Back at the airport, the police allegedly agreed with the women.
