VANGUARD
Throughout history, war has caused great pain and loss to countries as they often start because of political conflicts, religious differences, or disputes over land.
War destroys lives and economies, leaving long-lasting damage. They have taken millions of lives.
The idea of a peaceful world can seem impossible. But could there really be countries that have never been at war?
In this article, we will look at some countries that have avoided war throughout their history.
San Marino
San Marino, founded in the 4th century, is one of the oldest countries in the world and has never been involved in war. This tiny nation, surrounded entirely by Italy, covers just 61.2 square kilometers and is home to fewer than 40,000 people. Its neutrality was so respected that even Napoleon and the German army left it alone, including during World War II.
Vatican City
The Vatican City is a small independent state inside Rome and the centre of the Catholic Church. It has almost never been involved in war. During World War II, it was accidentally bombed twice, causing one death and one injury, but these incidents were not intentional. The Vatican has no formal military, relying on the Swiss Guard for ceremonial purposes, and the Pope has always encouraged peace.
Iceland
Iceland has never actively participated in a war. Interestingly, its independence came during World War II when Nazi Germany occupied Denmark, cutting Iceland off from Danish rule. Allied forces protected Iceland during the war, leading to its independence. Since then, Iceland has remained peaceful and has stayed out of conflicts.
