The residence of Garba Moyi, the Sokoto State Commissioner of Careers and Security Matters, has been razed by angry youths who accused him of shielding armed bandits.

The youths also destroyed the properties of Nasiru Ahmad, a traditional leader in the Isa Local Government Area of the state, for allegedly colluding with the bandits terrorising the area.

Areas like Isa, Sabon Birni, Gwaranyo, Rabah, Gada, Tangaza are often raided by bandits in Sokoto.

FIJ gathered that the two leaders had been accused of conspiring with armed bandits in the area several times.

Sanusi Abubakar, the spokesperson of the state’s police command, said the matter was being investigated. He appealed to the residents of the area to maintain peace and order.

On Sunday, some angry youths in the Tangaza Local Government Area of the state had set ablaze six suspected armed bandits allegedly involved in an attack on Saturday.

Sokoto has witnessed a sudden rise in banditry in recent months, leading to a renewed onslaught by the military to rout the bandits.

The state government recently banned mobile telecommunication networks in 14 of its 23 local government areas to complement the efforts of security
