In the morning of Friday, ‘Ghana Must Go’ began trending on social media as several media platforms reported that baggages which went by that name were no longer welcome in Nigerian airports.
The ‘Ghana Must Go’ bags are popular in Nigeria, and can be found across the country, so it became news when media outlets reported that the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had banned them.
These reports claimed that FAAN’s reason was that the bags had a “way of causing serious breakdowns of the conveyor belt system”.

VERIFICATION: FIJ checked to find the original statement announcing the ban but found a disclaimer on FAAN’s social media handle on X (formerly Twitter).
The government agency denied issuing the directive, saying the ban was announced by Ethiopian Airlines and it was only restricted to their own flights.
FAAN’s tweet on Friday afternoon read, “Kindly note that Ethiopian Airlines issued a prohibition of the use of Ghana Must Go on their flight, and not FAAN. Thank you.”
FAAN also attached an image format of the original statement issued by the airline.
