“The governor is probably displaying his ignorance of macro and micro-economies,” said Bala Ibrahim, the National Director of Publicity for the APC, in an exclusive conversation. He expressed disapproval of Mutfwang’s remarks, suggesting that the governor was merely indulging in political theatrics and demonstrating a lack of understanding.
“I will say the governor is probably displaying his ignorance of macro and micro-economies,” Ibrahim reiterated. He emphasized Buhari’s competence in economic matters, citing his experience as a former petroleum minister and head of state who oversaw the construction of two refineries. Ibrahim dismissed the notion that Buhari would undermine the economy, stressing that oil pre-sale agreements were common practice even during previous administrations.
Regarding the controversy surrounding alleged money printing, Ibrahim urged caution, noting that it was under investigation by the National Assembly. He cautioned against preempting the outcome and criticized Mutfwang for engaging in what he deemed as opposition rhetoric without offering constructive criticism.
However, the Labour Party took a different stance, with its National Legal Adviser, Kehinde Edun, expressing disappointment with the APC’s tendency to blame its predecessors. Edun argued that engaging in a blame game would not address Nigeria’s longstanding economic challenges or alleviate the suffering of its citizens.
“When are we going to stop this blame game?” asked Edun. He urged leaders to focus on delivering tangible results instead of making excuses, emphasizing the need for responsible governance and prudent financial management. Edun criticized what he perceived as wasteful spending by the current administration and called for a more proactive approach to addressing the country’s socio-economic issues.
