Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, has aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government regarding the recent electricity tariff hike.
Obi expressed his support for increasing electricity tariffs for affluent consumers on Sunday, citing it as the best approach to address Nigeria’s electricity issues. His remarks follow the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s approval of a tariff hike for Band A customers last Tuesday.
In response to the development, Obi emphasized that implementing a tariff increase for urban areas capable of bearing the cost is reasonable.
“We must do a lot in power generation because it has taken so long. But we have to take into consideration that the majority of Nigerians are suffering.
“So we need to support people in those areas to be able to live and be able to produce something.
