Discos attribute inability to supply 20 hours of power to TCN amid electricity tariff hike

Despite the recent increase in electricity tariffs for Band A customers, three major electricity distribution companies—Abuja, Benin, and Kano—have attributed power outages to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

In separate notices issued on Monday, the DisCos highlighted the challenges faced in supplying 20-hour power to Band A customers.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) recently approved a tariff hike specifically for Band A customers receiving a minimum of 20 hours of power supply.

However, the DisCos took to their social media platforms to explain the ongoing power outages and urged affected customers to bear with them.

Abuja Electricity Distribution Company cited a technical fault at the Gwagwalada Transmission Station, owned by TCN, as the cause of prolonged power outages in parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

“This is to appeal to residents of Gwako, University of Abuja Staff Quarters, Giri, University of Abuja Permanent Site, Iddo Sauki, and Iddo Sabo to bear with us as the prolonged power outage currently being experienced due to a technical fault at the Gwagwalada Transmission Station, owned by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

“Also, customers on 4 X 15MVA 33/11KV Kukwaba Injection Substation are currently out of supply due to a technical fault, affecting residents of Games Village, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, The Eye Clinic, and its environs,” it wrote.
