Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has expressed concern over the Supreme Court’s judgment granting local governments direct access to federal allocations, citing potential interference from state governors and Houses of Assembly.
Fayose believes that despite the court’s decision, state governors and Houses of Assembly will continue to hinder local government autonomy, as they control the activities and finances of local governments.
Fayose also criticized the lack of accountability at the local government level, stating that many officials don’t take their work seriously and often fail to show up for work, making it difficult to implement effective governance.
Fayose emphasized the need for true autonomy at the local government level, free from state interference, to ensure effective governance and development at the grassroots level.
