NAIJA NEWS

Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has said it did not approve tariff increase for telecommunication firms.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NCC, Aminu Maida disclosed this on Saturday.

He said the commission issued a directive for all operators to simplify their current tariff plans in  fair manner for consumers.

Maida said this in reaction to reports on Saturday that NCC approved tariff increase for MTN, GLO, Airtel, 9 Mobile and other telecommunications firms operating in the country.

He advised Nigerians to disregard the report.

“The NCC has neither approved any new Telecom Tariff Plans nor hike as reported on online. The public is advised to please disregard.

“NCC issued a directive for all operators to simplify their current tariff plans in a transparent & fair manner for consumers,” Maidan wrote, on his X handle.

NCC, on Saturday, published guidelines for telecom operators on add-ons and tariff plans.

The guideline required telecom operators to “develop and submit detailed migration plans to transition subscribers smoothly to new tariff plans, without loss of service quality or benefits.

“Submit comprehensive periodical reports detailing all active tariff plans, bundles, promotions, and Quality of Service (QoS) metrics.

The guideline also added that all “promotional elements must receive prior approval from the Commission and should be offered as standalone products with clear terms and validity periods.”
