Professor Kailani Muhammad, the Director General of the Confederation of APC Support Groups (CASG), has called for punitive measures against those who displayed the ‘Russian’ flag during the recent nationwide protests to deter similar actions in the future.
According to Daily Trust, the 10-day protest, which began on August 1, saw a surge in the use of the Russian flag in Kano, prompting authorities to crack down on those responsible. Among those arrested was a man suspected of producing the flags.
The Russian Embassy in Nigeria has denied any involvement in the use of its flag during the protests.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Kailani strongly condemned the act.
He stated, “The EndBadGovernance nationwide protest, launched by the youth on July 1, 2024, highlights a critical issue. However, we must prevent it from spiraling into a larger crisis, as managing crises is significantly more challenging than resolving conflicts.
“Looking back at history, we’ve seen incidents like the Tiv Massacre, the Wild-Wild West crisis of the 1960s, and the Nigerian Civil War from 1967 to 1971. While Nigeria has overcome these ordeals, the country still carries the scars.”
