We ‘ve 65% improvement in security situation – Chief of Defence Intelligence

The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Parker Udiandeye has disclosed that the hugely threatening insecurity which enveloped the country recently, resulting in a “sense of siege” and apprehension, “has been lifted” making the country presently more secure attributing it to the sustained and precision manner in which the armed forces are decimating terrorists, Bandit’s and other criminal elements in operations.

Consequently, the CDI said, “From May last year to now (August 2024) there has been a whopping 65% improvement in the security situation in the country”.

Gen Udiandeye made the disclosure at the Second and Third Quarter 2024 Operations Brief for Foreign Defence Advisers and Attache’s’ in Abuja on Friday.

“You are all aware that we have had challenges of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, violent extremism and other debilitating national threats which created a sense of Siege in the country and efforts at tackling these threats.

“Our operations are now focussed on being protective rather than being reactive. A lot of preventive and proactive offensive operations are ongoing and we are steadily taking out these elements and security threats even from their planning stages”.

He recalled for example, the hitherto resort by terrorists to attacking and killing farmers at random thereby creating apprehension and fear of involving in agriculture activities noting that such was no longer the case.

The CDI then admonished the Defence Advisers and Attache’s not to fail in sharing any intelligence that will not only assist the end goal of peace and security in Nigeria but also benefit the global community which they belonged to.

In his welcome remarks, the Director if Foreign Liaison at the Defence Intelligence Agency, Brigadier General Ojogbane Adegbe said, “This brief which is the second of it’s kind this year is intended to intimate Defence Advisers and Attache’s with the prevailing security situation in our country Nigerian and the Sahel region.

“Some of the security challenges are insurgency, banditry, kidnap for ransom, animal rustling, succession and unprovoked attack on innocent civilians by non state actors. This brief therefore seek to update you with developments in these areas and intimate you with the resolve if the armed forces to provide and other security agencies in order to provide official perspective

“”Additionally, this brief will x-ray the impact of these developments not only on the general security if lives of the citizenry but also it’s impact on food security in our nation.
