The Nigerian House of Representatives has requested the government to allow independent marketers to lift Dangote petrol from the newly built Dangote Refinery. The lawmakers are concerned that the NNPC and major marketers are exclusive distributors, creating a monopoly on the product.
If immediate action isn’t taken, petrol scarcity could worsen Nigeria’s suffering and negatively impact the economy. The House has also requested the Dangote Refinery to establish tank farms or depots nationwide to boost petrol availability. Independent marketers are unable to lift Dangote petrol due to the high cost of the product.
