Journalists headed to Uyo for Nigeria qualifier abducted in Anambra

Some sports journalists who were travelling to Uyo in Akwa  Ibom State to cover a football match between Super Eagles and their Libyan counterparts for the African Championship League qualifier were on Wednesday kidnapped in Anambra.

The journalists who were about 11 in number were travelling in a bus through Isseke around Ihiala area when they were kidnapped.

Isseke is one of the areas held captive by hoodlums masquerading as secessionists.

A source on Thursday however revealed that seven of the journalists have been rescued, while four other victims were still being held in captivity.

Reacting to this, police authorities in Anambra who confirmed the incident said only six of the victims were rescued, and that only one was still yet to be accounted for.

The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga who spoke to our correspondent said men of the command have been deployed to rescue them.

“We intercepted the information as was being shared on various social media platforms yesterday, and we went to work immediately.
