THE CABLE
The Nigerian Army has promoted 35 brigadiers general to the rank of major general and elevated 73 colonels to brigadier general.
In a statement on Friday, Onyema Nwachukwu, the army’s director of public relations, said those promoted to the rank of major general are A. Garba, acting provost marshal; U.M. Alkali, deputy chief of administration at the directorate of veteran affairs; and A.G.L. Haruna, acting general officer commanding 7 division and commander, sector 1, north-east operation Hadin Kai.
He added that I.A. Ajose, acting general officer commanding 8 division and commander, sector 2, north-west Operation Fansan Yamma; N.B. Ebulue, headquarters Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre; and L.G. Lepdung, commander, Operation Whirl Stroke, were also elevated.
O.A. Awolo, director of military training at the Nigerian Defence Academy, and U.G. Ogeleka, commander of Nigerian Army Space Command, were among the newly promoted officers.
Other officers include O.A. Fadairo, commander of 12 brigade; O.D. Williams, commander of 22 brigade; J.R. Lar, commander of 32 brigade; and A.G. Mahmuda, commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy.
V.D. Beryo, commander of the Nigerian Army Special Forces School, and A.O.D. Okoro, director of the army headquarters department of special services and programmes, were also elevated.
S.O. Adejimi, director of movement in the department of army logistics, and T.T. Sidick, director of finance at the Nigerian Defence Academy, were also among those promoted.
Others include MCE Ejike, commander of Sector 2, joint task force, north-eastOperation Hadin Kai; M.F. Babayo, commander of sector 3, north-east joint task force, Operation Hadin Kai; H. Yanet, commander of 51 signal brigade; and M.K Gara, army headquarters department of training.
