Emirates flight from Dubai to Kuala Lumpur makes emergency landing at Bengaluru Airport

An unexpected medical emergency forced an Emirates Airline (EK) A380 aircraft, on flight EK342 from Dubai Airport (DXB) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL), to divert to Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) on Friday, January 24, 2025.

The aircraft, registered as A6-EOU, is an Airbus A380-800, the world’s largest passenger plane. It departed Dubai International Airport at 11:27 AM GST, 47 minutes later than the scheduled departure time of 10:40 AM GST.

Approximately 3 hours and 25 minutes into its journey, the aircraft made a sudden right turn. The flight was over the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Pilots initiated descent toward Bengaluru, Aviation A2Z reports.

The aircraft safely landed at Bengaluru Airport at 4:22 PM IST, about 25 minutes after the decision to divert was made due to a medical emergency on board.

Although specific details about the individual’s condition remain undisclosed, such diversions highlight the airline’s steadfast commitment to prioritizing health and safety.

The flight crew acted swiftly, ensuring the passenger received the necessary medical attention. Further information about the individual’s health condition is not available at this time.

The flight took off again and was airborne at the time of writing this post.

Similarly, an Air India (AI) flight from Newark Liberty International Airport to Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport diverted to Moscow Zhukovsky Airport on November 30, 2024.

Flight AI106, operated by a 17.2-year-old Boeing 777-300ER registered as VT-ALJ, experienced an unexpected route change mid-journey.

According to FlightRadar24 data, the flight departed Newark at 4:25 PM UTC and was approximately nine hours into its journey when it altered its course over the Kama River in Russia.

The aircraft landed safely at Moscow Zhukovsky Airport at 2:07 AM UTC. Unconfirmed reports suggest the diversion was due to a medical emergency, with some sources claiming a passenger died mid-flight.

Official confirmation is pending, and details remain preliminary.

The flight remained grounded in Moscow for approximately two hours and 30 minutes before resuming its journey. It subsequently landed in New Delhi at 10:46 AM UTC on December 1, 2024, successfully completing its altered route.
