Obasa spent 17bn on Lagos Assembly gate construction? New fact emerges

TRIBUNE

The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has denied allegations of misappropriation of funds and abuse of office leveled against him by members of the House.

The lawmakers had, on Monday, January 13th, 2025, removed Obasa over allegations of gross misconduct and poor leadership, including perpetual lateness to legislative sessions and meetings, as well as gross abuse of office and privileges, among others.

Speaking at a reception organized by his supporters on Saturday, Obasa described the allegations as politically motivated and rooted in ill will.
He declared that he neither spent N17 billion on the construction of a gate nor N45 billion to procure Hilux vans for lawmakers.

He dismissed all the allegations as false and mere speculation.

He said, “I must take this opportunity to debunk the reports that have been circulating. It was said that I spent N17 billion to construct an ordinary gate. How is this possible? Is it the Wall of Jericho or the US-Mexico wall?

“We are a 40-member House of Assembly. For security reasons, we bought 45 Hilux vans, and now they claim that we spent N45 billion to procure the vans.
