Lagos commuters are facing worsening traffic congestion as the Independence Bridge remains closed despite a Federal Government directive ordering its reopening. The prolonged closure has intensified gridlock, disrupting daily movement and impacting businesses.
Motorists and commuters expressed frustration over the situation. “We have been stuck in traffic for hours. The bridge closure is making things worse,” one commuter lamented. Transport operators report financial losses as extended travel times lead to higher fuel costs and fewer trips.
Despite the FG’s order, the bridge remains inaccessible, raising concerns about enforcement and inter-agency coordination. Businesses along the affected routes have also reported declining customer footfall due to traffic congestion.
