An Aussie Rules football club almost didn’t survive after a shocking sex act between team-mates came to light.
Earlier this year, footage emerged of a young man knelt down in front of another as players from Glen Waverley Football Club enjoyed their end of season celebrations.
After one teammate lost a bet, the forfeit of said bet meant he had to perform a sex act on his teammate in the Mountain View Hotel pub, while his other teammates were cheering him on.
The Melbourne-based club were forced to release a statement to condemn the footage after it was posted on a viral Facebook page.
But that was just the start of the spiral, with president Matt Hollard admitting: “That video nearly killed us. We have been on the back foot for so long, putting out fires and having no control of the situation.”
As a result of the video, sponsors began pulling out while younger players were removed from grass roots coaching sessions and programmes by their furious parents.
Hollard revealed committee members also received death threats, with the club captain and fellow players walking out as they felt their mental health had not been looked after in the aftermath of the incident. Glen Waverley lost around 30 players in the wake of the scandal and was on the brink of collapse.
On the night, one witness claimed the bathrooms were covered in vomit with some players demonstrating abusive behaviour to customers and damaging property at the venue.
