LASTMA says drones will provide real-time aerial oversight to ease traffic and improve safety in Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has launched drone operations to boost traffic monitoring, enhance security surveillance, and improve public safety across Lagos.
In a statement on Thursday, LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq said the shift from conventional traffic control to intelligence-driven monitoring marks a new era for the agency.
General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki explained that the drones will provide real-time aerial oversight, enabling faster responses to congestion, accidents, and emergencies. “This transition transcends the mere acquisition of equipment; it embodies a strategic reformation that positions LASTMA at the forefront of digital governance in traffic management,” he said.
The agency assured that the deployment would comply with privacy safeguards and regulatory standards.
The initiative follows recent government partnerships to integrate Intelligent Transport Systems, e-police sites, and ANPR cameras across key locations. Officials said the combined measures aim to reduce travel times, minimize accidents, and promote a more disciplined driving culture in Lagos.
