EFCC demands Ogun Assembly financial records, probes alleged fraud

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has begun the probe of Ogun State House of Assembly over alleged financial misappropriation.

Our correspondent learnt that the anti-graft agency had written to the Assembly, asking for information on all budget appropriations and allocations of the House from May 30, 2015 to date.

The Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, confirmed this on Sunday while featuring on a radio programme, Sunday Morning Live on FM.

Oluomo disclosed this while responding to a question from one of the listeners on whether it was true that the EFCC was about to probe the state Assembly.

The Speaker replied in the affirmative, saying the EFCC letter was received during the recent parliamentary workers strike.

He, however, hinted that the EFCC’s move might be as a result of a petition from a member of the House of Assembly.

Though the Speaker did not mention who the petitioner was, our correspondent gathered that the former deputy speaker, Dare Kadiri, had petitioned the EFCC.
