The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has initiated the closure of several unregistered sachet water production facilities in Anambra State, citing concerns over unsanitary conditions and failure to adhere to regulatory standards.
Louis Mmadubuatta, the Coordinator of NAFDAC in Anambra, emphasized that this action is part of the agency’s ongoing surveillance efforts aimed at safeguarding public health. He stated, “We have over time visited a number of water factories that do not comply with good manufacturing standards, and normally such places are shut until they comply.”
Mmadubuatta affirmed that the sealed factories will remain closed until they meet the necessary regulatory requirements. While he did not disclose the specific locations of the sealed companies for strategic reasons, he issued a stern warning to all companies involved in illegal production of table water and other regulated products to cease such activities immediately.
Encouraging compliance with regulatory protocols, Mmadubuatta urged companies to register their products with NAFDAC and renew expired licenses promptly. He emphasized, “We are still embarking on massive sanction activities against erring companies.”
NAFDAC also called upon the public to report any illegal table water production activities in their communities for swift intervention, assuring confidentiality to informants. Additionally, consumers were advised to scrutinize product details such as name, production and expiry dates, NAFDAC number, and batch number, and to reach out to the agency with any concerns or doubts.
