South-East: 50 lawmakers write to Tinubu, seek Nnamdi Kanu’s release amidst insecurity

About 50 Nigerian lawmakers have written to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to help restore peace in the South East region.

The lawmakers, under the Concerned Federal Lawmakers for Peace and Security in the South East, appealed to the President to invoke relevant constitutional and legal provisions to effect Kanu’s release.

They argued that similar gestures had succeeded in reducing insecurity in other regions, such as the Niger Delta, and that Kanu’s release would demonstrate a commitment to justice and fairness.

The lawmakers emphasized that this move would help de-escalate tensions, strengthen democracy, and pave the way for a national conversation to address the region’s challenges and restore peace.
