As part of his administration’s determination to end the internecine farmers-herders conflict as well as restructure livestock farming, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has created the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.
President Tinubu also inaugurated the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee, expressing readiness to implement recommendations on ranching and other livestock reforms to enhance the economy.
The President, who sits as Chairman on the Committee, also appointed former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmud Jega, as co-Chairman of the body designed to minimise the age-long conflict between farmers and herders in the country.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Committee at the State House, Abuja on Tuesday, President Tinubu emphasised the potential of the livestock industry to boost agricultural productivity, export opportunities, and economic growth, noting that the sector contributes significantly to nutrition and food security.
He thanked former Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for convening a national conference on livestock reforms and commended the committee members for their expertise and commitment to Nigeria’s prosperity.
