A 25-year-old man, whose identity is yet to be revealed, tragically lost his life after jumping into an iron melting pot in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu, Lagos State. According to Naija News, the deceased was a contract worker assigned to the Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) section of a metal recycling plant.
The AOD process is a sophisticated method used to refine iron, nickel, and cobalt.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident on social media, stating that the case was reported to the Ikorodu Police by the company’s safety officer.
However, Hundeyin did not disclose the name of the deceased, the safety officer, or the company involved.
The safety officer reportedly informed the police station at around 3:51 PM on August 3, 2024, that a 25-year-old contract worker had allegedly entered a restricted area and jumped into the iron melting pot.
