A High Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has extended its previous order, limiting the #EndBadGovernance Protest in Abuja to the MKO Abiola Stadium, also known as the National Stadium.
On Tuesday, Justice Sylvanus Chinedu Oriji issued the new order after considering the arguments presented by the lawyers involved in the case. The judge ruled that the restriction would remain in effect until the main suit is resolved and scheduled the next hearing for August 22.
Although none of the #EndBadGovernance Protest organizers were present in court on Tuesday, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike was represented by Dr. Ogwu Onoja (SAN).
Onoja informed the court of a statement made by one of the organizers, Damilare Adenola, indicating that the group might extend the protests by another 10 days if the federal government did not respond to their demands. He requested the judge to maintain the restriction order until the next hearing, citing uncertainty about the group’s intentions since they were absent from court.
On July 31, the judge had initially issued an ex parte order restricting the protest participants to the National Stadium and prohibiting them from marching on the streets of the Federal Capital Territory.
