An Enugu State-based medical doctor, Nwoga Innocent, who was kidnapped on Thursday while on official duty has been released.
His release was announced on Friday evening by the Enugu State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
The NMA in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Dr Ebuka Ugwoke, said that Dr Nwoga, a Chief Medical Officer of Type 3 Primary Health Centre Ukehe in the Igbo-Etiti local government area of the state, was released on Friday afternoon.
“NMA Enugu State ably led by Dr. Ndiokwelu Chibuzo gladly announces the release of our brother and dear colleague, Dr Nwoga Innocent from the kidnappers dungeon this afternoon.
“Dr Nwoga was kidnapped yesterday while on official duties at Egede, along 9th mile – Nsukka road. He is the Chief Medical Officer of Type 3 PHC Ukehe, Igbo-Etiti LGA.
“We greatly appreciate Enugu State Government, the Police , the DSS and most importantly the Forest Guards for their coordinated efforts and timely response.
“We shall in line with the agenda of this administration step up and push for escalation of efforts of Government and relevant security agencies in ensuring a secured practice environment for Enugu State doctors.
“We also wish to remind our esteemed members on the importance of vigilance and cautionary safety alert culture.”
