THE NATION
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has placed its affiliates, state councils, civil society allies, and patriotic Nigerians on red alert following the alleged detention of its president, Comrade Joe Ajaero, by the Department of State Services (DSS).
The NLC has summoned an emergency meeting of its organs to address the matter. Ajaero was allegedly seized and whisked away by agents of the Nigerian State while on his way to the United Kingdom on the invitation of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Britain.
The NLC demands the immediate and unconditional release of Ajaero and calls on the international community, human rights organizations, and all advocates of democracy to take note of the rising wave of authoritarianism in Nigeria. The NLC calls on the world to bear witness to these assaults on human dignity, civil liberties, and the rule of law.
