NAIJA NEWS

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian teachers as they mark World Teachers Day.

President Tinubu said his administration would continue to put policies that would ensure better welfare and a conducive working environment for teachers.

He noted that the roles of teachers in children’s development and national growth cannot be overemphasized.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Tinubu said this on Saturday while speaking in Abuja on the theme “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education”.

President Tinubu said he, “leave no stone unturned in ensuring that teachers’ welfare, in particular, and quality education—which is key to women’s empowerment, disease prevention, poverty reduction, and promoting peace, unity, and prosperity—are achieved in Nigeria.”

He called on teachers to acquire more skills and knowledge that would help them in delivering quality education to students.

“As a teacher, you must acquire teacher education to possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to perform the task of teaching in the school system. The acquisition of these specialized competencies qualifies a trained person to be a professional teacher.
