The Kano State government has officially handed over 76 released minors who were detained for participating in the #EndBadGovernance protests to their parents.
The development follows two weeks of rehabilitation and counselling.
It would be recalled that there was global and national outrage early November after five of the detained minors collapsed in court while others looked malnourished and unkempt.
They were charged to court over alleged treasonable felony and attempt to overthrow the Tinubu government.
The development led to the outrage which forced the President, Bola Tinubu, to order the release of the minors.
This development was even as the Nigerian Police argued that they had the right to arraign the minors.
Rights groups, both local and international had condemned the Tinubu-led administration stating that Tinubu’s order for the release of minors was an attempt to save his face.
Speaking on the development, the Kano State governor through his Chief of Staff, Shehu Wada Sagagi noted that the government would not take lightly the action of some parents of the children seeking for donations or support.
“The government would not condone parents under the guise of Parents Association tasking people to collect donations and or support for their children, this government will not take it lightly with anybody.”
“Our government knows that what happened at the #EndBadGovernance protest shows that government at all levels must wake up to the challenges of unemployment and lack of education.”
The Tinubu-led administration has been accused of clamping down on dissenting voices and criminalising protests.
