35 bodies of minors killed in the stampede which occurred in Ibadan have been recovered, with six who sustained injuries in critical condition.

Sharing an update on Thursday, Police Public Relations Officer of the state, SP Osifeso Adewale disclosed that those in critical condition are undergoing various medical interventions.

“So far (35) thirty-five minors have been documented dead while (6) six others are critically injured and on various medical interventions,” Adewale said.

Daily Sun reported that the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Abdullahi Fasasi has reportedly been detained.

The event was reportedly intended for 5,000 participants but attracted over 7,500 attendees, leading to a chaotic scene that resulted in the stampede.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that parents and children rushed to enter the venue and ended up trapped in the crush at the main gate, with many of them unable to escape the crowd.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, in a statement, consoled with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the people of Oyo following the tragedy.

“I sympathise with the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased. I also pray for a speedy recovery and total healing for those who are still in the hospital.
